Why Get An App?
A majority of your users are accessing your forum via a smartphone and it's essential to reach them where they are. While the progressive web app suffices, the benefits of a native mobile iOS & Android app (listed on the Apple App and Google Play stores) allow for increased user engagement across the board and in turn grows your community.
Push Notifications
With native push notifications (and no need to configure them), users get alerts for comments, reactions, new posts on threads they are viewing, etc. This brings them back into the forum quickly and easily.
Easy Posting
Significantly increase new posts and comments by taking advantage of native environments and putting new posts at the forefront.
Photos & Videos
Xenforo forums suffer from an easy way to post photos/videos directly from a user's phone. This added headache for users lowers the amount of content they are posting.
Scrollability
With a native feed and the ability to show the first post of each thread, the mobile UI makes it easy for users to scroll through more posts and find content they want to engage with.
Conversations as DMs
With a native mobile app design, XF conversations are treated as direct messages, providing a more intuitive interface for private interactions.
Bespoke Development
We can add specialized features to your forum that make more sense with a mobile app, encouraging users to return and share more content.
Frequently Asked Questions
Step 2: We make and send design mockups to go over and make changes to based on your feedback.
Step 3: Once designs are agreed to, we get to work. Building you, your own iOS and Android apps. We mostly use the API released in XF 2 but also have a custom plugin that enhances the API with additional endpoints.
Step 4: App launch, community feedback, app updates.
Previously, I had a hardware and software startup with some friends that made sensors and internet of things software (where I got to know the owner of Reef2Reef and learned about XenForo). Matt Burns, a TechCrunch editor, had this to say about our previous app:
"It's the first app I open every morning. Before Reddit, before Gmail, before NYT. I roll over, grab my phone and check. I don’t know if there’s a higher honor I can bestow on an app."
I met the owner of Reef2Reef through my previous company and he asked me to build his community an app. In doing so I realized that there are quite a lot of shared aspects (especially tech wise) among every community running on XF and that a native mobile app could benefit many of these communities. For example, they all would have a direct messages section in the app and need to parse/format BBCode similarly.
